The current Under 11 Boys side derives from the first cohort that has progressed from the Saints’ Saturday Games Club. Of the present squad, at least six of the boys have been together since ‘day one’ when they first met as reception age children in St Joseph’s School Hall. Their progress has been rapid and remarkable – from throwing bean bags around as 4 and 5 year olds, the boys have acquired a wide range of ball skills; they have spatial awareness; and they display highly developed gross and fine motor skills - all well above average for boys of their age. The sport of football is the medium upon which their progress continues within the Saints set up; however it is great that so many of the boys transfer their understanding and their enthusiasm to other sports as well.
The patience they (and their parents) have shown is matched by their determination. In short this group of boys has become an effective and highly respected local football team, which plays at a high level within the North East Hants Youth League www.nehyl.org.uk during the winter months. Latterly we have grown into a squad of 14 boys and it is pleasing to see those that have joined us along the way have accepted and adopted the same principles and qualities that the team was first built upon. Importantly, all the boys have a commitment to playing the game in a fair and spirited way; we lose graciously and win modestly and our record is best amplified through the high sportsmanship position that we have been awarded within our league for the past two seasons.
Winning at all costs is not our philosophy - there is plenty of time for the boys to be hardened to the competitive edge and nuances that go with senior football. In the meantime we are content to carry on progressing as we have over the years; i.e. enjoying each others company twice a week and taking in a few social events now and again!

In junior football, should all players be given the same amount of time on the pitch during a game, regardless of ability?
Yes, always. Getting kids involved is the most important thing.
Yes, unless it is an important game.
No. Winning is important at all ages, so the best players should play more often.
